Payroll: Sole Trader or Umbrella Company  |  Rate: Up to £20 Per Hour DOE

 

The Opportunity

A lovely independent small animal practice in the borough of Southwark is looking for an experienced Locum Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to provide support across a selection of dates throughout June and July 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a genuinely warm and supportive clinic environment, working within a modern, purpose-built practice that places a real emphasis on personalised patient care, team wellbeing, and maintaining the feel of a true local veterinary clinic.

You’ll be joining a close-knit clinical team consisting of 3 vets, 2 RVNs, and 1 VCA, within a practice that has built an excellent reputation and loyal client base in a very short space of time.

The Practice

This proudly independent small animal clinic is based in the borough of Southwark, London, with excellent transport links nearby.

The practice has quickly established itself as a friendly, community-focused clinic centred around compassionate, personalised veterinary care with a genuine focus on creating a positive working environment for both clients and colleagues alike.

You’ll be working within a bright, modern facility equipped with:

  • Digital X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Spacious operating theatre
  • Dedicated RVN consult room
  • Separate cat ward
  • In-house laboratory
  • Comfortable staff welfare area

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on VCA role supporting the day-to-day running of the clinic across both clinical and client care duties.
 

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assisting vets and nurses with clinical procedures and daily tasks
  • Preparing patients for theatre
  • Assisting with recovery monitoring
  • Supporting inpatient care and patient handling
  • Feeding and general husbandry duties
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Supporting stock control and equipment maintenance

Client Care Responsibilities

  • Greeting clients and pets warmly and professionally
  • Answering calls and managing appointments
  • Supporting diary management and bookings
  • Processing payments and maintaining records
  • Providing excellent client communication and support
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations

About You

The practice is looking for someone who:

  • Has previous Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) experience (essential)
  • Is warm, proactive, and enjoys being part of a team
  • Is compassionate towards both pets and owners
  • Is organised and reliable in a busy clinical environment
  • Enjoys a varied role combining both clinical and client care duties
