Night Veterinary Surgeon – 24/7 Hospital

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a well-supported night role within a highly established 24/7 hospital in the Durham area? This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected, well-equipped referral-level practice with an experienced clinical team, including certificate holders, and a genuinely flexible approach to out-of-hours work.

This role is ideal for a confident night vet seeking work-life balance, clinical variety, and autonomy, with the backing of a strong nursing and support team.

The Opportunity

• Flexible out-of-hours rota designed around you
• Typical pattern: 6–7 nights on, 14 nights off (approx. ¾ time role)
• Alternative options available, including one week on / one week off
• Sole charge nights supported by one RVN and one auxiliary
• Busy 24/7 hospital environment with excellent facilities and diagnostics

Caseload & Clinical Support

• Average 3–4 cases per night
• Typically 3–4 inpatients overnight
• Access to advanced equipment and experienced colleagues, including certificate holders
• Strong handover processes and daytime clinical support

What We’re Looking For

• Confident Veterinary Surgeon with UK experience
• Comfortable working sole charge overnight
• Strong emergency and critical care skills
• A calm, pragmatic approach to out-of-hours work
• Flexibility and good communication skills
