Hey! I’m Georgia and I’m about to go into my fourth year of studying Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London.

I am so excited to be a student ambassador for Global Veterinary Careers and work alongside the team to inspire the next generation of vets!

My journey to become a veterinarian has been quite unconventional compared to most people.

My Journey So Far

There have been quite a few bumps in the road, such as moving schools, missing out on my A level grades and having to study another degree prior to my application to Vet School.

Although my journey has taken longer than most, almost 8 years by the time I graduate, it has taught me so much about who I am as a person and just how resilient I can be.

For some, spending 8 years at university would be less than ideal, but I have had a fantastic time and met so many inspiring and amazing people along the way. The thought of being a mature vet student can be really daunting at first, not knowing if you will fit in with the rest of the cohort, make friends or even be able to keep up with the content.

However, the amazing thing about studying Veterinary Medicine is that it attracts people from all walks of life, and often having that little bit of life experience makes you an even better Vet!

Time to Reflect

Reflecting on my journey, I now realise I wouldn’t change a thing. Deciding to push forward and follow my dreams despite the obstacles in my path has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life so far.

Vet school opens a whole new world of opportunities for students, from the placements that we go on to the people you meet and the experience you gain, it really is unlike any other degree out there.

This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to share my journey on social media with other vets, vet students & veterinary hopefuls! I have also had the pleasure of mentoring a handful of students from non-privately school educated backgrounds to help them gain confidence and refine their applications to Vet School which has been extremely rewarding, particularly when I receive the news that they have been accepted into Vet School!

Creating equal opportunities for students looking to enter the Veterinary profession is something I feel very passionate about and love to share with others on my social media platforms.

And now?

As I enter the final few years Vet School, I hope I can share with you all some tips & tricks that have helped me throughout my time at university and, with the help of GVC, discuss the questions that all soon to be new grads will have regarding getting your first job, what to look for in a practice and everything in between!
