Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon | Full-Time or Part-Time

GVC is assisting a well-established, multi-site small animal practice in recruiting an experienced Veterinary Surgeon. The practice provides high-quality first-opinion care with a varied caseload and opportunities for vets with interests in surgery, orthopaedics, and medicine.

The Role

The successful candidate will work in a supportive team environment with experienced colleagues, including certificate holders in medicine, dentistry, and ECC, as well as nurses holding advanced qualifications. Responsibilities include:

  • Routine consultations, surgical procedures, and case management

  • Participation in a 40-hour week full-time rota, with 1 in 8 on-call and one weeknight on-call every two weeks

  • Flexible and part-time working arrangements considered

  • Time off in-lieu for weekend and weeknight on-call shifts

The practice operates an in-house overnight RVN team, including ECC-certified nurses, to support on-call vets and in-patient care. An OOH telephone answering service ensures vets are not taking calls directly.

Facilities & Team

  • Fully equipped with digital X-ray, ultrasound, flexible and rigid endoscopy, two surgical theatres with multiparameter monitors, and a dental suite with X-ray

  • Extensive in-house laboratory and multiple consulting rooms

  • Designated canine and feline inpatient wards, plus a bereavement room

  • Collaboration with visiting specialists in ultrasonography and cardiology

  • Training practice affiliated with a veterinary university and registered as a nurse training facility

  • Supportive workplace culture with mental health first aiders and wellbeing champions

Benefits (Pro-Rata)

  • Salary: £40,000–£65,000 depending on experience

  • 6.6 weeks holiday, including bank holidays

  • CPD funding with 5 paid days per year, certificates encouraged

  • RCVS membership, VDS cover, and two additional subscriptions

  • Employee Assistance Programme and optional private medical insurance

  • Enhanced parental leave

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic vet seeking a supportive, multi-disciplinary team, opportunities for progression, and a varied caseload with professional development.
