This Medical Director position blends hands on clinical work with dedicated time for quality, coaching, and culture, so you can elevate outcomes for pets, clients, and your team without sacrificing balance.
The Opportunity
- Set clinical direction, protocols, and quality benchmarks in partnership with hospital leadership.
- Split your week between patient care, coaching doctors and LVTs, and driving improvement projects.
- Enjoy predictable scheduling, collaborative coverage, and no on call.
- Influence hiring, onboarding, workflow, and client experience while keeping a manageable caseload.
What You Will Do
- Lead medical quality, patient safety, and evidence based practice.
- Mentor associates through case review, rounds, and structured feedback.
- Partner on scheduling, inventory, and CE planning, including journal clubs and M&M.
- Foster a positive, inclusive culture that supports growth and wellbeing.
- Build trusted client relationships through clear, compassionate communication.
You Will Bring
- Strong GP and urgent care skills across medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry.
- Confidence with dental radiography and common ultrasound guided workflows, or the desire to learn.
- A coaching mindset, organization, and follow through.
- Curiosity and comfort with data, using metrics to improve quality and efficiency.
Schedule and Support
- Full time, flexible start and finish times.
- Every other Saturday, half day, optional with team coverage.
- Skilled LVTs and assistants per doctor, centralized support for referrals and radiology reads.
Hospital Snapshot
- Small animal GP with wellness, dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and daytime urgent care.
- Digital radiography with dental, in house lab, ultrasound access, hands free radiology culture.
- Cloud based EMR, online pharmacy, efficient client communications.
Doctor headcount: collaborative multi doctor team.
Equipment: digital radiography, dental radiography, in house laboratory, ultrasound access, cloud based EMR, online pharmacy.
Caseload: small animal general practice with dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and daytime urgent care.
Requirements
- DVM or VMD degree or equivalent from an AVMA accredited university.
- NAVLE.
- ECFVG or PAVE if attended a non AVMA accredited university.
- DEA, Illinois state, and USDA licenses, can be acquired when hired.
Compensation
- Base $180,000–$240,000 + 20–23% production, no negative accrual, leadership stipend or bonus $10,000–$25,000. OTE: $220,000–$320,000+.
