After Hours Veterinary Surgeon – 7 on 14 off – West Midlands

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced After Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive and supportive hospital team in the West Midlands. This position offers an excellent balance between emergency caseload and genuine downtime, making it ideal for those passionate about ECC without the intensity of continuous night work.

The Role

  • Hours: 31.5 hours per week – 7 nights on, 14 nights off

  • Type: Permanent

  • Salary: Up to £63,000 DOE (pro rata)

  • Pattern: Night shifts only, no daytime duties

This role involves caring for inpatients overnight and managing emergencies from the hospital’s own client base only – allowing high-quality case continuity and clinical autonomy. You’ll work alongside an experienced RVN and PCA during every shift, with excellent facilities and resources to support optimal patient outcomes.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a confident and capable Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in Emergency and Critical Care. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential, as is the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Applicants should be:

  • RCVS-registered with proven small animal experience

  • Comfortable working sole charge overnight with nursing support

  • Committed to delivering a high standard of clinical care

  • Interested in developing ECC skills or working towards a certificate (fully supported)

Why Apply?

This position provides the opportunity to manage emergency and inpatient cases from start to finish within a well-equipped hospital setting, supported by a large and collaborative veterinary team. Benefits include:

  • Established 7-on / 14-off rota for true work-life balance

  • Advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities, including in-house lab and orthopaedic equipment

  • Supportive and structured environment with clinical freedom

  • CPD allowance and encouragement for further study

Benefits

  • Salary up to £63,000 DOE (pro rata)

  • Funded CPD and certificate support

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid

  • Comfortable overnight rest facilities
