The Opportunity
We are partnering with a leading specialty and emergency veterinary hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to appoint a General Manager. You will own daily operations, culture, and commercial performance, building on strong clinical foundations to elevate patient care, client experience, and team engagement. You will collaborate closely with the Medical Director and department leads across ER and referral services, using data to drive decisions, improve KPIs, and grow services.
What You’ll Do
People, leadership, culture
- Coach, develop, and inspire department leads and their teams, championing a supportive, accountable, high-morale environment.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain great people, align schedules and resources to demand, and recognize high performers.
- Foster cross-team collaboration, resolve conflict constructively, and ensure an exceptional client experience every visit.
Practice operations, performance, growth
- Own hospital KPIs, budgets, and P&L, analyze trends, and turn insights into actionable improvements.
- Lead annual planning and monthly reviews, optimize labor and cost of sales, and maintain accurate fee schedules and inventory.
- Prioritize equipment and facility needs, partner on sourcing and capital requests, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Patient care enablement
- Ensure teams have the people, tools, and CE to deliver excellent ER and specialty medicine.
- Support service expansion and best-practice medical SOPs in partnership with clinical leadership.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven multi-team leadership in a hospital, healthcare, or comparable service environment with budget and P&L responsibility, ideally 5+ years.
- Communication and stakeholder skills that build trust, influence decisions, and move plans forward.
- Track record of sustainable process improvements and results in a fast-paced, client-centric setting.
- HR fluency across hiring, coaching, performance, and engagement.
- Experience in veterinary practice management software is a plus.
- Relevant post-secondary education in business, healthcare administration, operations, or similar. CVPM or MBA is an asset.
- A genuine passion for animals and the people who care for them.
