Mixed or Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon | Scottish Borders | Full or Part-Time

GVC is assisting a well-established mixed practice in the Scottish Borders to recruit an enthusiastic Mixed or Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their caseload and wants to work within a supportive, forward-thinking team surrounded by beautiful countryside, all within an hour’s drive of Edinburgh.

The Role

The position can be tailored to suit your preferences — whether you enjoy a truly mixed caseload or prefer a predominantly farm-based role. The team works with a range of clients, from large commercial herds and flocks to smaller pedigree farms, as well as a loyal small animal client base.

Typical duties include:

  • Routine farm work, health planning, and fertility testing

  • Emergency and first opinion clinical cases

  • Small animal consultations and surgery (if desired)

Rota: Most vets work a 4.5-day week with flexibility for part-time options
On-call: Equal share of farm-only OOH, typically 1 in 7–8, with two vets on call during the busy spring season and time off in lieu

The Team & Facilities

You’ll join a friendly, experienced, and collaborative team of farm, small animal, and equine vets supported by skilled nurses and reception staff. The clinic is well-equipped with modern diagnostic facilities including dental x-ray, quality ultrasound, and comprehensive in-house lab equipment.

The practice promotes knowledge sharing and teamwork, providing a great environment for vets who enjoy variety, autonomy, and professional growth.

  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

  • Vehicle provided

  • 30 days’ holiday per year (pro rata)

  • Generous CPD allowance, with certificates supported and encouraged

  • Enhanced maternity/paternity pay

  • Life assurance

  • Workplace pension

  • Opportunities for career progression within a large, supportive network

This role offers the best of both worlds , professional satisfaction and excellent work-life balance in one of the UK’s most scenic regions.
