Overview

GVC are assisting a leading academic veterinary institution in Scotland seeking an experienced Professor or Senior Clinician in Small Animal Surgery to join their specialist team. This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with academic leadership, research, and teaching in a world-class veterinary school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical:

  • Deliver a high-quality small animal surgery service, providing specialist expertise and guidance to referring practices.

  • Support the development of innovative diagnostic and surgical techniques.

  • Supervise and train residents, interns, and clinical scholars, helping them achieve board certification.

  • Participate in the on-call rota and ensure clinical excellence and quality assurance standards are met.

  • Contribute to the continued development and reputation of the hospital and division.

Teaching:

  • Lead and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in small animal surgery.

  • Mentor and inspire clinical scholars and students in both theoretical and practical learning.

  • Participate in assessments and feedback processes to ensure high educational standards.

  • Drive innovation in teaching and learning within the clinical environment.

Research & Scholarship:

  • Conduct and publish high-quality clinical research in small animal surgery.

  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, contributing to the advancement of veterinary surgical science.

  • Represent the School at national and international conferences, promoting research and clinical excellence.

Leadership & Administration:

  • Provide academic and strategic leadership within the small animal surgery team.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s clinical and academic goals.

  • Engage in administrative duties and performance review processes as required.


Requirements

  • RCVS-recognised veterinary degree (or equivalent) with eligibility to practice in the UK.

  • Diplomate status with the ECVS or ACVS (or equivalent).

  • Proven expertise and leadership in small animal surgery, with a strong record of clinical excellence.

  • Experience in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Evidence of research output and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to collaborative academic and clinical practice.
