As a veterinarian, it’s important to showcase your skills and experiences during an interview; here are some of our top tips to help you to prepare:
Research The Practice
- Before your interview, take the time to learn as much as you can about the practice, their philosophy, what services they provide and the variation of animals they treat. This will benefit you when asked questions regarding the needs of the practice.
Brush Up on Common Interview Questions
- Prepare answers to common interview questions, such as “Why do you want to work for this practice?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” Practice answering these questions out loud so you feel confident during the interview.
Highlight Your Experiences
- Highlighting any relevant experiences that may make you stand out will benefit you in making you more memorable. Whether that is any specialised training you have received or specific cases you’ve worked on, explaining how you have assisted in helping previous patients and how those experiences will benefit the practice itself.
Ah yes… Difficult Cases
- Be ready to discuss difficult cases you have previously worked on, including how you approached the situation and what you did to decide on the outcome. This will show the interviewer that you are able to handle challenging situations and think critically when needed.
Be Passionate!
- As a veterinarian, your passion for animals should be evident! Talk about your motivations and why you chose to work with animals in the first place. Sharing stories of your own pets or volunteer work you have involved yourself in is a fantastic place to start.
Dress To Impress
- Remember to dress professionally for your interview, as you would for any other interview.
Ask Questions
- Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer about the practice and role you’re going for, such as their approach to patient and employee care or opportunities for progression – this will show that you’re interested in the practice and want to learn more about them.
Remember to stay calm, confident, and focused during your interview. If you need any more assistance or interview prep, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team who will be happy to support you.
