A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to lead a busy small animal hospital in Cardiff, South Wales, UK. This full-time permanent role (37.5 hours per week) offers the chance to step into a key leadership position, overseeing clinical quality, day-to-day operations and the development of a large, diverse team.

This is an ideal role for an experienced vet ready to take on a hospital-leadership position, combining clinical oversight with people management, team development and strategic planning.


The Role

As Senior Veterinary Surgeon, you will:

  • Lead and develop the veterinary surgeons, nursing team and client services team.

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth workflow and excellent clinical standards.

  • Take responsibility for clinical governance, case quality and continuous improvement.

  • Plan rotas and resources to maintain efficient, safe and compassionate care.

  • Manage treatment-related budgets and ensure responsible use of resources.

  • Foster a positive, collaborative working culture across all departments.

This position requires strong communication skills, a proactive approach and the ability to inspire and support others across the hospital.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop veterinary and client-facing teams

  • Ensure high standards of clinical care and operational efficiency

  • Maintain clinical governance and cost-effective resource use

  • Support a strong client experience and consistent service delivery

  • Contribute to strategic leadership and ongoing improvement initiatives


Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon

  • Proven leadership or team management experience

  • Strong communication, organisational and decision-making skills

  • Ability to manage clinical priorities alongside operational needs

  • Passion for high-quality veterinary care and team development


Salary & Benefits

  • £65,000 – £77,000, depending on experience
