Veterinarian – Maternity Leave Position

This opportunity is suited to a small animal veterinarian seeking a full-time or part-time maternity leave position within a large, well-established veterinary practice located in Bendigo, Central Victoria. The role is offered for a 12-month period, with potential to negotiate an ongoing contract for the right candidate. The position provides a varied caseload, the ability to follow cases through to resolution, and exposure to a wide range of species, including exotics and wildlife if desired.

The successful veterinarian will have the opportunity to further develop their clinical and surgical skills within a supportive environment, working alongside an experienced team of veterinarians and a highly skilled nursing team. Collaboration, mentorship, and case discussion are key features of this role.

Bendigo Animal Hospital is a large, privately owned small animal hospital that offers a progressive and balanced approach to modern veterinary medicine. The practice is well equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities, including ultrasound, wireless DR radiography, digital and rigid endoscopy, otoscopy, dental radiography, laparoscopic soft tissue surgery, and orthopaedic procedures including TPLO. The veterinary team consists of eight veterinarians, supported by approachable and experienced practice principals who are readily available to assist with cases when needed.

Located centrally in Bendigo, opposite Lake Weeroona and less than two hours north of Melbourne, the practice offers an excellent lifestyle balance. Bendigo provides the amenities of a major regional city while maintaining a relaxed pace of life, with access to sporting facilities, national parks, wineries, arts and culture, and an award-winning dining scene.

The clinic places a strong emphasis on team culture and staff wellbeing, with regular social activities and a supportive working environment. Structured scheduling, nurse-led triage, 20-minute consultations, dedicated emergency slots, catch-up blocks, and protected lunch breaks allow veterinarians to deliver high-quality care without undue pressure.

Full-time veterinarians work a four-day week with rotating RDOs, with flexibility available for the right candidate. On-call requirements are minimal and shared between several Bendigo clinics, with strong senior vet support and RDOs following on-call shifts to ensure adequate recovery time.

This role would suit a veterinarian who is passionate about delivering high standards of medical and surgical care, is friendly and motivated, and is keen to be part of a successful and collaborative veterinary team.
