Experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian (Small Animal–Leaning)
Maternity Leave Contract | April / May 2026 – December 2026

An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian to join a well-established, supportive regional practice on a fixed-term maternity leave contract from approximately April / May 2026 through to December 2026.

This is a small animal–leaning role (approximately 80% small animal, 20% mixed) and would suit a veterinarian who enjoys clinical variety without the demands of intensive production-animal workloads.

The Role

  • Approximately 80% small animal medicine and surgery

  • Around 20% mixed animal work, including:

    • Commercial farming clients

    • Hobby farmers (sheep, pigs, goats, alpacas, llamas)

    • Pleasure horses

  • Established and loyal client base

  • Well-equipped clinic with strong nursing and veterinary support

  • Full-time maternity leave contract (part-time may be considered)

  • Participation in the shared on-call roster appreciated

About You

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in mixed or small animal practice

  • Confident in routine small animal consultations and surgery

  • Comfortable managing basic mixed animal and equine cases

  • Strong communication skills with a practical, down-to-earth approach

  • Collaborative and team-focused

What’s On Offer

  • Supportive and collaborative team culture

  • Flexible rostering where possible

  • Opportunity to enjoy true clinical variety without heavy production work

  • Defined-term role with a smooth handover and excellent support

This position is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys predominantly small animal work while maintaining exposure to mixed practice in a balanced and manageable way.
