Veterinary Receptionist – Farm Animal Practice
Location: Abergavenny, Wales

We are looking for a friendly and organised Veterinary Receptionist to join a well-established farm practice, supporting farmers and smallholders in the Abergavenny area. This is a varied, hands-on role ideal for someone calm under pressure and comfortable working in a busy veterinary environment.

The Role

Reception Duties:

  • Answer telephone calls, prioritising emergency enquiries

  • Book farm visits and TB tests

  • Welcome clients at reception and dispense medications

  • Create invoices and process payments

  • Liaise effectively with vets, technicians, and clients

  • Follow practice policies and procedures

Administrative Duties:

  • Use IT systems and practice management software

  • Email and message clients

  • Scan, process, and save data to client accounts

  • General office and administrative duties as required

Technician Support Duties:

  • Pack and prepare laboratory samples

  • Clean and maintain surgical areas and equipment

  • Carry out faecal egg counts

  • Assist vets, including animal restraint when required

Vacancy Details

  • Full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday)

  • Rostered office hours between 8:15am – 5:30pm

  • Saturday mornings 8:30am – 12:30pm during lambing and calving season (Feb–Apr)

  • Flexible working hours considered

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience

  • 20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays

  • Full training provided

  • Agricultural knowledge desirable but not essential

The Practice

The team consists of 10 experienced vets, 2 TB testers, and 6 office staff, supporting a wide range of farm clients including dairy, beef, sheep, pigs, goats, and smallholders. The practice has a strong community focus, with regular team socials and access to a staff wellbeing programme.
