Veterinary Surgeon – Malta
Small Animal | Relocation Opportunity | €30,000–€60,000+
Fancy swapping the UK weather for sunshine, sea views and life in Malta? ☀️
Global Veterinary Careers are assisting an independent veterinary practice in Malta with the recruitment of an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a UK-trained Vet looking for a change of scenery, warmer weather and the chance to build a career in a beautiful Mediterranean setting, while remaining within easy reach of the UK, Italy and the rest of Europe.
The Role
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will join a supportive, well-equipped independent practice, providing high-quality small animal care across consultations, diagnostics, treatment and surgery.
You will need to be comfortable working independently, including sole-charge responsibilities, while also working collaboratively with the wider veterinary and nursing team.
The role will include:
- Small animal consultations, diagnostics and treatment planning
- Routine and elective surgical procedures
- Managing cases confidently when working sole charge
- Providing excellent patient and client care
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and documentation
- Working closely with Veterinary Nurses and support staff
- Carrying out house calls using a company-provided vehicle
- Participating in weekend and emergency work on a rotational basis
Weekend work isn’t purely emergency-based. The practice remains open for routine consultations, vaccinations, visits and other first-opinion work.
Weekend opening hours:
- Saturday: 08:00–14:00
- Sunday: 08:00–13:00
Weekend shifts are shared on a rota.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who can confidently work both independently and as part of a team.
You’ll ideally have:
- 3+ years’ small animal experience
- Confidence working sole charge
- Strong clinical and surgical skills
- Excellent English communication skills
- A valid driving licence
- The ability and willingness to relocate to Malta
- EU work eligibility, where applicable
Postgraduate qualifications and specialist experience are highly valued. Candidates with 10+ years’ experience, particularly those confident in advanced surgery and sole-charge work, may be considered for a higher salary.
Salary & Working Hours
💰 €30,000–€60,000+ per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
There is scope to offer above this range for highly experienced or specialised candidates. Salary will reflect your expertise, with areas such as Cardiology and Orthopaedics attracting the highest packages.
⏰ 40–45 hours per week
Where additional hours are worked above the standard 40-hour week, these will be compensated.
For the first three months, the salary is generally based around a 45-hour working week while new Vets settle into the role and become familiar with the practice and caseload.
