Assistant /Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomy
Billings, Montana, United States
What would make a move into academia feel like the right next step — shaping a new veterinary school from day one, or stepping into a role where your teaching directly influences the next generation of vets?
Veterinary Anatomy Faculty (DVM / PhD)
Academic / Teaching Role
Billings, Montana
An opportunity has arisen to join a newly established College of Veterinary Medicine in the US, offering a rare chance to be part of a founding faculty team. This is a role where you will contribute directly to the design and delivery of a modern, student-centred veterinary curriculum, with real input into how the programme develops over time.
This position would suit veterinarians with 4+ years post-qualification experience, or those with a PhD, internship, residency, or prior teaching/academic exposure, who are looking to transition into veterinary education or build on existing academic experience.
You will be primarily responsible for delivering teaching within Veterinary Anatomy across the DVM programme. This includes preparing and delivering lectures, facilitating small group and practical sessions, and supporting students through structured learning experiences. A key part of the role will also involve contributing to curriculum development, reviewing and updating course materials, and supporting the creation and refinement of assessments, including exam questions, to ensure alignment with clinical relevance and programme outcomes.
Alongside teaching, you will play an active role in student mentoring and academic support, helping guide learners through both the academic and professional aspects of their training. There is also scope to engage in research and scholarly activity, particularly in areas such as One Health, wildlife and conservation medicine, zoonotic disease, climate change, and public health. Collaborative work across departments is encouraged, with opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary projects and involve students where appropriate.
You will also be expected to participate in wider academic responsibilities, including departmental meetings, faculty evaluations, and involvement in university committees as the school continues to grow and evolve.
Salary & Benefits
$149,000 – $196,000+ depending on experience and faculty rank, with relocation assistance available.
Full benefits package including 401(k) with up to 7% employer match, health/dental/vision insurance, and generous leave entitlement (holiday, sick leave, and paid holidays).
This role offers a structured academic environment with a more predictable schedule than clinical practice, alongside the opportunity to shape a new veterinary programme and have long-term influence on the profession.
