Veterinary Surgeon – Maternity Cover | Cambridgeshire, UK

GVC are assisting a well-established small animal practice in Cambridgeshire seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly team on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract, with the potential for a permanent opportunity beyond this.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet who enjoys first opinion practice and wants to work within a collaborative, progressive environment where patient care always comes first.

The Opportunity

You’ll be joining a close-knit and experienced team made up of supportive vets, skilled RVNs, a VCA, and a dedicated reception team. The practice has built a strong reputation for high-quality patient care and excellent client relationships, with a high proportion of insured clients allowing for thorough diagnostics and case workups in-house.

The clinic regularly works alongside visiting orthopaedic and cardiology specialists, offering excellent exposure to more advanced cases while still maintaining a true first opinion feel.

The team are passionate about creating a positive workplace culture and place huge importance on work-life balance, flexibility, and ensuring every team member feels supported.

The Role

• 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract
• Potential opportunity to remain with the practice long term
• Full-time position (40 hours)
• Flexible rota options available
• 4 or 5 day working week considered
• 1 in 4 Saturdays
• No Sundays or OOHs
• Flexible working patterns including late starts, split shifts, or extended breaks
• Opportunity to tailor the role around your interests, including surgical bias or consult-only focus

About You

The practice is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with ideally 2–3 years’ UK small animal experience who is confident with routine consultations and surgery and enjoys building strong relationships with clients and patients alike.

This role would suit someone looking to continue developing clinically within a busy but highly supportive general practice environment.
