Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal Practice – South Wales

Are you an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon looking to take the next step into a leadership role within a supportive, progressive practice?

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and compassionate vet to join a well-established, multi-site small animal practice in South Wales as a Lead Veterinary Surgeon. The role combines a varied clinical caseload with mentoring, leadership, and operational responsibilities, offering genuine scope for career progression and clinical development.

The Role

  • Lead Veterinary Surgeon position
  • Full-time preferred (4-day week)
  • Part-time and flexible working patterns considered
  • 1 in 5 Saturday rota
  • No weekend or Bank Holiday night on-call requirements
  • Dedicated night RVN support on site

Leadership & Clinical Responsibilities

Alongside first opinion clinical duties, you will:

  • Support and mentor junior vets and new graduates
  • Assist with clinical leadership and workflow management
  • Support rota planning and diary coordination
  • Help investigate and manage clinical complaints
  • Participate in one-to-ones
  • Promote high clinical standards and collaborative working
  • Work closely with the Clinical Director and Practice Manager
  • Help foster a positive and progressive team culture

This role would suit a vet who enjoys developing colleagues, improving practice processes, and contributing to the overall success of the team.

The Practice

This is a well-established, RCVS-accredited, 4-branch small animal practice with a strong reputation for clinical standards and supportive teamwork.

Facilities include:

  • In-house laboratory equipment
  • Digital X-ray and upgraded DR X-ray
  • Dental X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Laser therapy
  • Blood gas machines
  • 24-hour nurse-led inpatient care during the week

You’ll be joining an experienced team of 12 vets, including certificate holders in Medicine and Radiology, alongside visiting specialists and experienced RVNs.
