A unique opportunity is available for an experienced Locum Veterinary Nurse to join a busy, purpose-driven hospital environment in Wacol. This role offers exposure to a diverse caseload, hands-on nursing, and the chance to work within a highly supportive and collaborative team.
The clinic is ideally seeking one consistent locum to support during a period of leave, with flexibility across shifts essential.
Availability
• ASAP start or from June
• Ongoing through to July
• 3–4 days per week
• Primarily Monday–Thursday (flexible)
Shift Options
• Day shifts
• Afternoon shifts
• Evening: 3:00pm – 12:00am
• Overnight: 11:00pm / 11:30pm – 7:00am (some sole charge)
• Weekend shifts available
Flexibility across shift types is essential
The Role
• Surgical and medical nursing in a high-volume hospital
• Assisting with a wide range of procedures:
• Desexing and dentals (core workload)
• Orthopaedics, amputations, BOAS
• Soft tissue, ear and eye surgeries
• Anaesthesia monitoring, pre-meds and recovery
• Exposure to trauma and emergency cases
• Supporting across hospital, treatment and surgical areas
• Working alongside a collaborative team of vets, nurses and support staff
Caseload & Environment
• 10–50 surgeries per day
• Wide variety of species including small animals and occasional large/exotic cases
• Busy, hands-on and fast-paced setting
• Cases can be complex and at times confronting
About You
• Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent)
• Minimum 2+ years’ experience
• Strong surgical and anaesthesia confidence
• Ideally experience in ECC or high-volume environments
• Comfortable working independently when required
• Adaptable, proactive and team-focused
• Resilient and able to manage a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment
