Head Veterinary Nurse – Cheshire – RCVS Accredited Hospital

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced and enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a busy, RCVS-accredited small animal hospital in Cheshire as a Head Nurse. This is a fantastic role for an RVN looking to step into a leadership position within a well-equipped first opinion hospital, working alongside a large and supportive clinical team.

The Role

As Head Nurse, you will play a key role in maintaining high clinical standards and supporting the continued development of the nursing team. This is a varied and rewarding position combining leadership responsibilities with hands-on clinical nursing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting a team of RVNs, SVNs and ACAs
  • Promoting high standards of patient and nursing care
  • Supporting clinical training and acting as a Clinical Coach
  • Surgical nursing and inpatient care
  • Critical care nursing
  • Laboratory work and diagnostics
  • Assisting with day-to-day hospital operations

This busy hospital offers excellent facilities including:

  • CT scanner
  • Ultrasound scanner
  • Digital X-ray
  • In-house laboratory
  • Laparoscopy equipment
  • Modern surgical and diagnostic facilities

Working Pattern

  • Full-time position
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Worked over 4 or 5 days
  • Shift patterns between 7am–10pm
  • 1 in 8 weekend rota with time off in lieu
  • No out-of-hours requirement
  • Salary – £32,000–£38,000 depending on experience

About You

The ideal candidate will be a confident RVN with strong leadership and communication skills who enjoys mentoring and developing others. Previous experience supporting trainee nurses or working as a Clinical Coach would be highly beneficial.

You will thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment and enjoy a varied caseload involving surgical nursing, inpatient care and emergency support.
