Bayside Melbourne | Small Animal Practice | Leadership Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced veterinarian to step into a Lead Veterinarian position within a thriving and well-established small animal practice located in Melbourne's sought-after bayside region.

This role would suit either an established veterinary leader or a senior veterinarian looking to take the next step into leadership while maintaining a strong clinical focus. The successful candidate will play a key role in mentoring colleagues, supporting clinical excellence, and helping to foster a positive and collaborative team culture.

About the Practice

This modern and progressive practice has built a loyal client base and enjoys an excellent reputation within the local community. The team consists of four veterinarians, highly experienced veterinary nurses, dedicated client care professionals, and a capable Practice Manager who provides exceptional operational support.

The clinic prides itself on maintaining high clinical standards while creating an environment where team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to develop their skills.

The Role

The successful candidate will enjoy a varied caseload and the opportunity to combine hands-on veterinary work with leadership responsibilities.

Clinical duties may include:

✔ Consulting and preventative healthcare

✔ Soft tissue surgery and dentistry

✔ Diagnostics and case management

✔ Exposure to a broad range of medical and surgical cases, including orthopaedics

✔ Daily case discussions and collaborative decision-making

✔ Participation in regular veterinary meetings focused on clinical development and continuous improvement

There are no after-hours or Sunday requirements, allowing for genuine work-life balance.

Modern Facilities & Equipment

The practice is equipped with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and surgical equipment, including:

• Digital radiography

• Dental radiography

• Ultrasound

• Endoscopy

• Electrocautery

• In-house pathology and urinalysis

• Modern surgical and monitoring equipment

Veterinarians are provided with the tools, resources, and support required to practise high-quality medicine and surgery.

Leadership Responsibilities

The Lead Veterinarian will:

• Provide clinical leadership and guidance to the veterinary team

• Mentor and support veterinarians at various stages of their careers

• Foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive workplace culture

• Assist with clinical standards, case discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives

• Work closely with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team

• Contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the practice

About the Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

• Hold a BVSc (or equivalent) and be eligible for veterinary registration in Victoria

• Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in small animal practice

• Demonstrate strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Enjoy mentoring and supporting colleagues

• Have previous leadership experience or a genuine desire to develop leadership capabilities

• Be committed to high clinical standards and exceptional patient care
