Who they are

This is a growing, independently owned small animal practice in South West London with a clear identity and a genuine commitment to doing things well. The practice is looking for an experienced GP vet who is ready to step into a Lead Vet role and help shape the clinical direction of a practice that is going somewhere.

This is not a role that demands a finished, fully formed clinical leader from day one. What matters most is strong clinical judgement, a genuine enjoyment of building client relationships, comfort with being the main vet in the building and an enthusiasm for helping influence how a practice develops. There will be a proper transition period with support from the practice owner to build confidence on the leadership side, alongside an experienced nursing team, strong front of house support and trusted external specialist and referral partners for more complex cases.

What you will do

Day to day you will be the main clinical vet in the practice, seeing the majority of consults and building strong, lasting relationships with clients and their pets. You will carry out routine GP procedures and surgeries, support the nursing and client care team with clinical questions, help guide the clinical team and keep standards consistent, review and update clinical protocols and identify areas where things can improve.

You will be comfortable working sole charge when needed and confident in knowing what can be managed in house and when specialist or referral input is the right call. The practice has trusted referral partners for orthopaedics, complex soft tissue surgery, imaging and internal medicine, so advanced referral level work is not expected of this role.

40 hours per week. No out of hours. No Sundays.

What you will gain

£55,000 to £60,000 depending on experience. CPD supported and professional development actively encouraged. Staff discounts. An independent practice environment with a close knit, supportive team and a genuine opportunity to help shape how the practice grows.

What they need from you

MRCVS registered with strong GP experience and confidence working independently and sole charge. A good communicator with clients and the team. Kind, calm and thoughtful in approach. Interested in clinical standards and keen to take ownership of the clinical side of the practice. Previous formal Lead Vet experience is welcome but not essential — this could suit an experienced GP vet who is ready to grow into leadership with the right support around them.
