Mixed Veterinary Surgeon – 100+ Year Independent – Newcastle upon Tyne – Competitive (DOE)

An established, genuinely mixed independent practice is looking for a 2+ years qualified Mixed Vet to join their supportive team. This is a great option for someone who enjoys true variety and wants to keep developing clinically, including through an in-house out-of-hours service.

The practice

This is a well-established independent (100+ years) with a proper mixed caseload:

• ~80% Small Animal
• ~15% Equine
• ~5% Farm

You’ll be joining a team with a good spread of experience and a collaborative culture—there’s always someone to discuss cases with and learn alongside.

The role

You’ll be comfortable with:

• Consults and routine surgery
• Some sole charge (day work)
• Enjoying mixed work and being a positive team player

A standout feature here is their own OOH service, which brings a wider case mix and strong clinical development—without the “constant phone all night” worry, as nurses triage calls first, and there’s vet support overnight (no sole-charge OOH).

Rota / OOH

• 1 night on-call per week (if you’re 1st on-call, you get a half day off next day from 1pm)
• 1 Saturday morning in 3
• 1 full weekend on-call in every 6 (includes Saturday morning)
  • After working your full weekend: no weeknight on-call the following week and Friday or Monday off (3-day weekend)
• Bank holidays shared equally
• No sole-charge OOH
