Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon

My client in South Wales is looking for an experienced Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a busy emergency hospital environment, providing high-quality care to pets when they need it most.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Vet who enjoys emergency and critical care, is confident making clinical decisions independently, and thrives in a fast-paced setting.

The Role

  • Salary: £63,560 – £76,146 pro rata, including allowances
  • 33.41 hours per week
  • Permanent, part-time position
  • Dedicated Out of Hours / emergency role
  • Opportunity to manage a varied caseload of urgent and critical patients
  • Significant clinical autonomy and responsibility

Working Pattern

The role operates on a three-week rota:

  • Week 1: Monday–Sunday, 19:45–08:15, awake night shifts
  • Week 2: Off
  • Week 3: Off

This provides a generous amount of time away from work while still offering an attractive part-time working pattern.

About You

You’ll be well suited to this role if you:

  • Are MRCVS registered
  • Have previous experience in emergency and/or critical care
  • Are confident assessing and managing emergency cases independently
  • Can make calm, pragmatic and welfare-focused clinical decisions
  • Thrive in a busy, high-pressure environment
  • Are confident communicating with clients during challenging situations
  • Are comfortable using clinical systems and technology
  • Have experience using ultrasound, radiography and multiparameter monitoring
