Ongoing Locum Vet – Coastal Essex

A well-equipped small animal practice in Coastal Essex is looking for a confident Locum Veterinary Surgeon to provide ongoing cover from 14th September while they recruit permanently. This is a great opportunity for a vet who enjoys a good mix of consults and routine surgery, within a supportive setup where you’ll typically be working alongside 1–2 other vets (very little sole charge).

The Role

• Start date: 14th September (ongoing)
• Type: Locum (whilst recruiting perm)
• Days: 3–4 days per week
• Hours: 9:00am–7:30pm with 30-minute lunch
• Weekends: 1:3 Saturdays (9:00am–4:00pm) – consults & vaccinations plus emergencies
• Clinical split: Ideally consults + ops (may consider consults-only for the right person, but preference is mixed duties)
• Sole charge: Very minimal (typically alongside 1–2 other vets)
• OOH/On-call: None

The Practice

You’ll be joining a busy, friendly small animal team with a collaborative day-to-day culture. The rota is designed to keep sole charge to a minimum, making it a strong option for a vet who wants to work confidently while still having other vets on shift.

Additional Information

• Experience required: Ideally 3–4 years UK experience
• Rate: Open to discussion — they’re happy to pay well for someone they feel very confident in
