Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Independent Veterinary Hospital | West London

£12,500–£20,000 DOE | Weekends Only
1:2 Weekend Rotation

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a role that gives you the opportunity to work within a progressive independent veterinary hospital, whilst keeping your weekdays completely free?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a highly regarded independent veterinary hospital in West London, working Saturdays and Sundays on a 1:2 weekend rotation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking for a genuinely flexible permanent position, whilst still having access to advanced facilities, an interesting caseload and a highly experienced clinical team.

The practice is well equipped with modern hospital facilities and advanced diagnostic equipment, alongside experienced vets, visiting specialists and advanced certificate holders. You'll have the opportunity to work cases up thoroughly and benefit from the clinical support available within the wider team.

The Practice

This independently owned and RCVS-accredited practice has developed a strong reputation for delivering high standards of veterinary care, combining modern facilities with a compassionate, patient-focused approach.

Significant investment has been made into equipment, technology and team development, ensuring clinicians have the tools and support required to provide excellent patient care.

Alongside a highly experienced clinical team, you'll have exposure to a varied caseload and the opportunity to work alongside visiting specialists and advanced practitioners across multiple disciplines.

The practice places a strong emphasis on clinical freedom, allowing vets to investigate cases thoroughly and provide the highest standard of care.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a little different from your typical part-time Veterinary Surgeon position.

Working every other full weekend, you'll have the flexibility of a permanent role whilst keeping your weekdays free.

It's particularly well suited to an experienced vet looking for regular, predictable weekend work without committing to a traditional weekday working pattern.

You'll still be joining a progressive independent hospital with access to advanced equipment, an experienced team and a varied clinical caseload, with plenty of opportunity to utilise and develop your skills.

The Role

This position would suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident working independently and managing a varied small animal caseload.

The role will involve:

  • Working Saturdays and Sundays on a 1:2 weekend rotation
  • Managing cases from initial consultation through to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up
  • Medical work-ups and ongoing case management
  • Inpatient and hospitalised patient care
  • Performing routine and advanced soft tissue procedures
  • Dental radiography and dental extractions
  • Diagnostic imaging, including ultrasound
  • Maintaining excellent clinical records
  • Providing exceptional client communication and care
  • Working collaboratively with the wider clinical team

About You

To be considered, you will ideally have:

  • MRCVS registration
  • 3+ years of small animal practice experience
  • Confidence managing cases independently (although no sole charge regularly)
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
  • Experience working up both medical and surgical cases
  • Competency in soft tissue surgery
  • Experience with dental radiography and extractions
  • Ultrasound experience, including emergency and abdominal scanning
  • Excellent communication and client care skills
  • Strong clinical record keeping
  • A proactive and collaborative approach

The practice would be particularly interested in speaking with vets who have a genuine interest in developing their clinical skills and enjoy working within a well-equipped independent environment.

Additional Interests Welcome

Whilst not essential, the practice would be particularly interested in Veterinary Surgeons with experience or a strong interest in:

  • Soft Tissue Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Ophthalmology
  • Cardiology
  • Endoscopy
  • Laparoscopy
  • Arthroscopy
  • Advanced Ultrasound
  • Official Veterinarian (OV) work

Facilities

The hospital benefits from excellent facilities, including:

  • Dedicated operating theatres
  • Separate dog and cat wards
  • Multiple consultation rooms
  • CT scanner
  • Digital radiography
  • Dental radiography
  • Endoscopy equipment including bronchoscopy and gastroscopy
  • Advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment
  • Extensive surgical instrumentation
  • Multiple ultrasound machines

This means vets have access to a broad range of diagnostics and treatment options in-house, supporting thorough investigation and management of more complex cases.

Benefits

  • £12,500–£20,000 salary dependent on experience
  • Saturdays & Sundays, 1:2 weekend rotation
  • RCVS fees paid
  • £3,500 CPD allowance, pro rata
  • Support with certificates and further qualifications
  • 5 paid CPD days annually, pro rata
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, pro rata
  • Additional annual leave through long-service rewards
  • Healthcare cash contributions
  • Discounted veterinary treatment and pet food
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Paid overtime and TOIL
