Lead Veterinary Receptionist

Storrington, West Sussex | £30,000 per annum | 40 hours per week

Are you an experienced veterinary receptionist ready to take the next step into leadership?

🐾 Join a proudly independent veterinary group where people, teamwork and exceptional client care are at the heart of everything we do.

GVC are assisting a well-established independent veterinary group with the recruitment of a Lead Veterinary Receptionist to join their busy hospital team in Storrington.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves working with clients, thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys supporting and developing a team.

About the Practice

Working across a network of four branch clinics and two modern veterinary hospitals, this independent group is passionate about delivering exceptional, personalised care to pets and their owners.

With a strong emphasis on kindness, collaboration and clinical freedom, the team is committed to creating a welcoming environment where both clients and colleagues feel valued. You’ll be joining a supportive team that believes in doing things the right way and making a genuine difference.

The Role

As Lead Veterinary Receptionist, you’ll work closely with the Hospital Site Manager, providing day-to-day leadership and support to the hospital and roving reception teams.

This is a hands-on position, with approximately 85% of your time spent on reception and 15% dedicated to administrative and leadership responsibilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering outstanding client care and leading by example on reception.

  • Supporting, motivating and developing the reception team.

  • Coordinating rotas and managing staffing gaps across the hospital and local branches.

  • Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, inductions and ongoing training.

  • Acting as a first point of contact for reception queries, issues and complaints.

  • Supporting one-to-ones, appraisals and team development.

  • Working alongside the Client Care Manager to improve customer service and client satisfaction.

  • Monitoring KPIs, including call handling, pick-up rates and opportunities to promote additional services.

  • Supporting debt management and Provet diary administration.

  • Helping resolve day-to-day operational challenges and improve processes.

The role will also involve participation in weekend and bank holiday rotas, with occasional support at other locations where required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Previous veterinary reception or administration experience.

  • Experience in a senior, supervisory or leadership position (preferred).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Confidence using clinical practice management systems and Microsoft Office.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • A genuine passion for delivering excellent client care and supporting colleagues.

You’ll be approachable, organised and positive, with the confidence to guide a team while remaining hands-on and leading by example.

What’s on Offer?

  • Salary of £30,000 per annum, based on 40 hours per week.

  • A full-time, permanent opportunity, with a minimum of 35 hours per week considered.

  • The chance to develop your leadership and management skills.

  • A supportive, collaborative working environment.

  • The opportunity to join a proudly independent veterinary group that values its people.

  • A varied role combining client care, administration and team leadership.
