Head Veterinary Nurse – Leadership Role – Busy Small Animal Practice – Acton, Greater London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head Veterinary Nurse to join a friendly and well-equipped small animal practice in Acton, Greater London. This position is ideal for an experienced RVN who thrives in a leadership role and enjoys driving clinical standards, mentoring others, and delivering exceptional patient and client care.

The Role:
As Head Nurse, you’ll take responsibility for the clinical leadership of the nursing team, ensuring the highest levels of care, compliance, and operational excellence. You’ll play a key role in shaping the clinic’s standards and supporting both your nursing colleagues and veterinary surgeons in delivering outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional clinical care for patients during procedures and nurse-led appointments

  • Support veterinary surgeons during operations and procedures

  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and medication dispensing

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records

  • Lead daily briefings and ensure smooth day-to-day clinic operations

  • Coach and develop the nursing team, promoting nurse-led clinics and Schedule 3 procedures

  • Ensure compliance with RCVS, health and safety, and internal practice standards

  • Manage stock control and laboratory procedures efficiently

Requirements:

  • RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse (essential)

  • Confident leading, mentoring, and developing a clinical team

  • Experience in delivering high-quality patient and client care

  • Skilled in planning, organisation, and communication

  • Positive and proactive team player with strong leadership skills

  • Willing to work weekends as part of the rota
