Head Veterinary Surgeon – Cheshire, UK

This is an exciting opportunity to join a spacious, standalone small animal practice in Alsager, Cheshire, where clinical freedom, collaboration, and work–life balance are truly prioritised.

GVC is assisting a well-established, community-focused practice led locally by an experienced RVN owner, enabling quick decision-making and real influence over how the practice is run. You’ll play a key role in shaping clinical standards, mentoring junior vets, and delivering exceptional care to local pets.

The Role

• Lead and maintain high clinical standards across the practice

• Mentor and support junior and developing veterinary surgeons

• Deliver a mix of consultations and surgical procedures

• Enjoy full clinical freedom and autonomy in case management

• Opportunity to step into Head Vet level or transition into leadership with support

Rota & Work–Life Balance

• Full-time or part-time hours considered

• 1 in 4 Saturday mornings only (9am–12pm)

• No Sundays

• No OOH

About the Practice

• Standalone, light and spacious surgery on the main street

• Modern equipment including digital x-ray, ultrasound, BP monitoring, and in-house lab

• Supportive team of 3 vets (2 FTE), 3 RVNs, 1 SVN, and 2 receptionists

• Varied caseload with encouragement for clinical interests and certificates

• Experienced colleagues on hand to support leadership development
