A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced veterinary leader to step into a Lead Clinical Director position within a large, progressive small animal veterinary group in South West England.

This role offers the chance to lead clinical excellence across a well-established multi-site practice, working alongside a highly experienced team of veterinary professionals while helping shape the strategic direction of the wider group. With modern facilities, strong clinical support, and a collaborative leadership culture, this is an ideal opportunity for a senior vet ready to make a significant impact.


The Practice

This forward-thinking primary care group operates multiple sites and is supported by a fully equipped 24/7 small animal hospital, providing comprehensive in-house out-of-hours care.

The wider team includes 24 veterinary surgeons and over 50 veterinary nurses, with a number of certificate holders and visiting specialists supporting advanced services.

Facilities across the group include:

  • Modern operating theatres including laparoscopic equipment

  • Digital and dental radiography

  • Ultrasound imaging

  • Full dental staging capability

  • Laser therapy and orthopaedic surgery equipment

  • Isolation wards and well-equipped consulting rooms

  • On-site laboratory services

  • CT imaging available within the hospital

All branches are Cat Friendly accredited clinics, with dedicated feline consulting times.

The practice also benefits from strong central support and collaboration across a wider veterinary network, providing access to referral expertise and professional development opportunities.


The Role

As Lead Clinical Director, you will take responsibility for guiding clinical standards, supporting the development of veterinary teams, and contributing to the overall strategic growth of the business unit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and inspiring a large multi-disciplinary veterinary team

  • Driving clinical excellence and maintaining high professional standards

  • Mentoring and coaching clinicians across the group

  • Supporting operational performance, budgeting, and KPIs

  • Working closely with the senior leadership team to develop services and protocols

  • Encouraging open communication and collaboration across sites

The team meets regularly for clinical discussions and collaborative meetings, ensuring all clinicians have a voice in shaping practice protocols and development.


Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strong clinical ability and proven leadership experience.

You will ideally have:

  • MRCVS registration

  • A minimum of 3+ years’ leadership experience, ideally within a multi-site or senior practice role

  • Experience managing budgets, performance targets, and operational KPIs

  • A passion for coaching and mentoring veterinary professionals

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • The ability to lead teams through change while maintaining a positive culture
