Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal Practice – South Wales
Are you an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon looking to take the next step into a leadership role within a supportive, progressive practice?
This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and compassionate vet to join a well-established, multi-site small animal practice in South Wales as a Lead Veterinary Surgeon. The role combines a varied clinical caseload with mentoring, leadership, and operational responsibilities, offering genuine scope for career progression and clinical development.
The Role
- Lead Veterinary Surgeon position
- Full-time preferred (4-day week)
- Part-time and flexible working patterns considered
- 1 in 5 Saturday rota
- No weekend or Bank Holiday night on-call requirements
- Dedicated night RVN support on site
Leadership & Clinical Responsibilities
Alongside first opinion clinical duties, you will:
- Support and mentor junior vets and new graduates
- Assist with clinical leadership and workflow management
- Support rota planning and diary coordination
- Help investigate and manage clinical complaints
- Participate in one-to-ones
- Promote high clinical standards and collaborative working
- Work closely with the Clinical Director and Practice Manager
- Help foster a positive and progressive team culture
This role would suit a vet who enjoys developing colleagues, improving practice processes, and contributing to the overall success of the team.
The Practice
This is a well-established, RCVS-accredited, 4-branch small animal practice with a strong reputation for clinical standards and supportive teamwork.
Facilities include:
- In-house laboratory equipment
- Digital X-ray and upgraded DR X-ray
- Dental X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Laser therapy
- Blood gas machines
- 24-hour nurse-led inpatient care during the week
You’ll be joining an experienced team of 12 vets, including certificate holders in Medicine and Radiology, alongside visiting specialists and experienced RVNs.

- Salary up to £70,000 FTE DOE & qualifications
