Ready to step into a leadership role without committing to it forever?

We're working with a well-established small animal clinic in Brisbane's western corridor that is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join the team as a Lead Veterinarian on a 12-month maternity leave contract, commencing August 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior clinician who enjoys mentoring, leading by example, and helping shape a positive clinic culture, while still remaining hands-on with medicine and surgery.

Whether you're already in a leadership position or looking to take the next step in your career, this role offers the chance to gain valuable leadership experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.

What's on Offer?

  • 12-month fixed-term contract

  • 4-day working week

  • No after-hours

  • No on-call

  • No Sunday work

  • Opportunity to develop and strengthen leadership skills

  • Supportive and experienced team environment

  • Established client base with the ability to work cases up thoroughly

  • Well-equipped clinic with strong diagnostic capabilities

The Clinic

Located within a growing family-focused community, this established small animal practice has built a loyal client base and strong local reputation.

The team is passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care while maintaining a supportive workplace where collaboration, development, and client relationships are highly valued.

Facilities include:

  • Digital radiology

  • Dental radiography

  • Ultrasound

  • In-house laboratory

  • Fully equipped dental suite

The clinic sees a varied caseload across medicine, surgery, dentistry, preventative healthcare, and diagnostics, providing plenty of variety and professional satisfaction.

The Role

This is a genuine leadership position where you'll have the opportunity to influence both clinical standards and team development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality patient care and clinical outcomes

  • Consulting and performing routine surgeries

  • Mentoring and supporting a recent graduate veterinarian

  • Leading by example and fostering a positive team culture

  • Assisting with clinic operations and day-to-day decision making

  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to improve processes and efficiencies

  • Building long-term relationships with clients and the local community

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced veterinarian who enjoys supporting others and wants to play an active role in shaping a clinic's culture and success.

You will:

  • Hold a BVSc or equivalent and be eligible for registration in Queensland

  • Have 5+ years of clinical experience

  • Be confident in both consulting and routine surgery

  • Have previous leadership experience or a genuine desire to step into a lead role

  • Be comfortable with occasional sole charge responsibilities

  • Enjoy mentoring and developing junior veterinarians

  • Have excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

  • Be passionate about maintaining high standards of patient care

Why Consider This Role?

Leadership opportunities don't always come with the flexibility to test whether leadership is truly the right fit.

This role offers the chance to step into a Lead Veterinarian position within a supportive environment, gain valuable experience mentoring and guiding a team, and make a genuine impact, all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance with a 4-day week.
