This is more than a leadership role. It's an opportunity to influence clinical standards, develop an exceptional team and help improve the lives of thousands of animals every year.

We're partnering with one of Queensland's largest and most respected animal welfare organisations to recruit a Lead Veterinarian for their flagship veterinary hospital in Brisbane.

Working alongside an experienced leadership team, you'll play a key role in guiding the day-to-day operation of the hospital while mentoring veterinarians, strengthening clinical governance and driving continuous improvement across the service.

If you're ready to step into a role where your leadership can have a lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

This position combines clinical practice with strategic leadership. While you'll still enjoy hands-on veterinary work, your greatest contribution will come through developing your team and shaping the future direction of the hospital.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading, mentoring and supporting a team of veterinarians.
  • Providing clinical guidance on complex medical and surgical cases.
  • Driving high standards of clinical governance and patient care.
  • Developing and reviewing clinical protocols and procedures.
  • Supporting workflow, caseload management and hospital operations.
  • Coaching graduate veterinarians and fostering professional development.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve outstanding animal welfare outcomes.
  • Contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

You're an experienced veterinarian who enjoys leading people just as much as practising medicine.

You thrive on building strong teams, creating positive workplace culture and helping others grow professionally. You're collaborative, approachable and able to balance clinical excellence with practical leadership.

You'll have:

  • Registration as a Veterinary Surgeon in Queensland (or eligibility).
  • At least five years' experience in small animal practice.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring or senior clinical experience.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
  • A genuine passion for high-quality veterinary care and animal welfare.

Previous shelter medicine experience is highly regarded but not essential.

What's on Offer?

Along with the opportunity to make a genuine difference, you'll enjoy:

  • A senior leadership position with real influence.
  • A supportive and collaborative leadership team.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Paid parental leave and study leave.
  • Ongoing professional development.
  • Employee wellbeing and counselling support.
  • Staff discounts and additional employee benefits.
  • Free onsite parking.

Most importantly, you'll join an organisation where your work contributes directly to improving the lives of thousands of animals across Queensland every year.
