This is a mixed animal veterinary practice in Taumarunui, King Country, that is looking to welcome an experienced Veterinarian to its friendly and progressive team.

This opportunity would suit a generalist vet with sheep and beef experience and a practical companion animal skill set who is ready for their next career step. The practice offers a supportive, collaborative environment where professional development is genuinely encouraged and work–life balance is taken seriously.

This is a full-time role (40 hours per week), with rostered Saturdays and an on-call rotation designed to be sustainable and fair.

About the Role

In this position, you’ll work across both large and small animal practice, supporting the local farming community while also delivering high-quality companion animal care. You’ll be joining a passionate team in a region that offers professional variety alongside an excellent lifestyle.

The on-call roster is structured to support balance, with weekends on call generally once every five weeks or less, plus one weeknight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care across both production and companion animal cases

  • Support herd health programmes, including fertility management and disease prevention

  • Perform medical and surgical procedures to a high clinical standard

  • Work closely with farmers and pet owners to provide practical, value-adding advice

  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment

  • Maintain and grow clinical skills through continuing professional development

  • Engage with new technologies and advancements in veterinary medicine

About You

  • Registered (or eligible for registration) with the New Zealand Veterinary Council, with a current Annual Practising Certificate

  • Hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science

  • Experience in mixed animal practice, particularly sheep and beef

  • Confident consulting and surgical skill set

  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach

  • Compassionate, professional, and team-oriented

  • Reliable, organised, and committed to high standards of care

  • Motivated to continue learning and developing professionally
