About the Clinic Our clinic is a well-established mixed veterinary practice in Dairy Flat, renowned for delivering high-quality veterinary services to a diverse client base. We provide care for small animals and large animals, including lifestyle block animals such as sheep, equine (pony club and pleasure horses), and smaller-scale cattle. As part of an independently New Zealand-owned veterinary group with over 45 vets across multiple clinics, we foster a supportive environment dedicated to animal health and client satisfaction.

The Role We are seeking an experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian to join our dynamic 3-vet practice in Dairy Flat. This role offers a balanced mix of small-animal medicine and enjoyable large-animal work, with opportunities to develop new skills in small-animal practice while continuing to care for large animals. You’ll work closely with motivated lifestyle block owners and collaborate with a friendly, experienced team to deliver exceptional veterinary care in a rewarding rural setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and emergency veterinary care for large animals (sheep, equine, and small-scale cattle) and small animals (companion animals).
  • Conduct diagnostics, treatments, and preventative health programs, including vaccinations and parasite control.
  • Perform herd and flock health assessments, offering guidance on animal welfare and biosecurity for lifestyle block clients.
  • Advise clients on nutrition, reproduction, and management to optimize animal health.
  • Carry out surgical procedures, including minor operations, as required.
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with New Zealand veterinary regulations.
  • Collaborate with the clinic’s veterinary team and support staff to deliver outstanding client service.
  • Participate in a shared on-call roster for after-hours emergencies (with excellent locum support).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) or equivalent, with full eligibility for registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Council.
  • 2+ years’ experience in mixed animal veterinary practice (new graduates with a strong interest in mixed practice may be considered).
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills, particularly in sheep, equine, and small-animal systems.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to engage with lifestyle block owners and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced rural environment.
  • Valid New Zealand driver’s license (essential for farm visits).
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of mixed animal veterinary work.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with small-animal medicine and a desire to expand skills in this area.
  • Familiarity with equine care for pony club and pleasure horses.
  • Passion for rural life and a commitment to supporting Dairy Flat’s lifestyle block community.
  • Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development and staying current with industry advancements.

What the Clinic Offers

  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives.
  • Supportive team environment with experienced veterinarians and dedicated support staff.
  • Access to modern equipment and vehicles for farm visits.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including regular in-house CPD sessions, a generous CPD allowance, and access to the Advanced Practitioner Pathway for additional training.
  • Support from vets with special interests in surgery, internal medicine, feline medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, and more.
  • A balanced lifestyle in the picturesque Dairy Flat region, with proximity to stunning beaches, the Hauraki Gulf, and Auckland’s social, sporting, and cultural opportunities.
  • Relocation assistance and visa support for international applicants (if applicable).
  • NZ Veterinary Council and NZVA membership fees covered.
