Are you an ECC-focused Veterinary Surgeon looking for an excellent work-life balance alongside a rewarding clinical caseload? We are working with a well-established small animal practice in County Durham seeking a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join their dedicated out-of-hours team.
This role offers the opportunity to work just one week in every four, giving you three weeks off between rotations while remaining part of a supportive and clinically progressive team.
The Role
- Permanent Night Veterinary Surgeon position
- 7 nights on, 21 nights off rota
- Shifts: 7:30pm – 8:30am
- Dedicated handover periods at the start and end of every shift
- Flexible working options available, including a potential mix of day and night work
- Suitable for experienced ECC vets or those looking to further develop their emergency and critical care skills
Clinical Environment
You'll be supported by a dedicated overnight team consisting of:
- 1 Veterinary Surgeon
- 1 Registered Veterinary Nurse
- 1 Auxiliary Team Member
The overnight workload is manageable and allows for excellent patient care, with typically:
- 1–2 consultations per night
- Average inpatient numbers around 4 patients
- Busy nights involving 10–15 inpatients
Facilities
The practice is exceptionally well equipped with access to:
- In-house laboratory
- Digital radiography
- Ultrasound
- Upper and lower GI endoscopy
- Rigid female canine cystoscope
- Bronchoscope
- Advanced diagnostic equipment
You'll also have the support of experienced colleagues and certificate holders across multiple disciplines, creating an excellent environment for learning and development.
