The Opportunity

An exciting locum opportunity has become available within a newly launched Out of Hours service in Oxfordshire.

The practice is looking for an experienced Locum Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to provide annual leave cover across a selection of night shifts throughout June and July 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an RVN who enjoys ECC and inpatient care but is looking for a quieter and more manageable OOH caseload within a newly established service.

The Practice

This is a modern and forward-thinking small animal practice that has recently launched its dedicated Out of Hours service.

As the service is newly opened, caseload levels are currently relatively manageable compared to larger, busier OOH hospitals allowing for a calmer overnight working environment while still offering excellent clinical exposure.

You’ll be working as the sole RVN overnight alongside an experienced OOH Veterinary Surgeon who remains on-site throughout the night, providing excellent support and collaboration.

Accommodation is available roughly 20 minutes away and can be accessed by public transport easily.

The Role

Typical Duties

  • Overnight inpatient care and monitoring
  • Assisting with emergency and urgent care presentations
  • Anaesthesia support where required
  • Patient stabilisation and nursing care
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records
  • Working closely with the overnight Veterinary Surgeon
  • Supporting the smooth running of the OOH service overnight

This role would suit an RVN who is confident working overnight, enjoys ECC and inpatient care, and is comfortable within a sole-charge nursing environment alongside vet support.
