Registered Veterinary Nurse – Hospital Role | UK
GVC are working with a well-established independent veterinary hospital in the UK, offering a varied and hands-on Registered Veterinary Nurse role with a balanced approach to night duties and strong clinical support.
The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for an RVN to join a busy first-opinion practice with a wide and interesting caseload. You’ll be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team in a modern, spacious hospital setting, with the chance to develop both clinically and professionally.
The role offers the “best of both worlds” when it comes to night work – nurses still gain valuable inpatient and emergency experience, but without the added pressure of handling out-of-hours calls, allowing full focus on patient care overnight.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high standards of nursing care across a varied caseload
- Support surgical procedures, anaesthesia, and patient recovery
- Manage inpatient care, including overnight monitoring and treatments
- Work collaboratively across different areas of the hospital
- Opportunity to take on or continue a Clinical Coach position within a training practice
Rota & Shifts
The role operates on a structured rota across multiple areas of the practice:
- Dispense: 8:15am – 6:00pm (1.5-hour lunch)
- Theatre: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- 2nd Ops: 8:00am – 5:15pm
- Kennels: 9:30am – 6:30pm
- Recovery: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Night Duty: 4:00pm – 10:00am
- Weekend: 24-hour shift (8:00am – 8:00am)
During night and weekend shifts, nurses are on-call for inpatients only after 9pm weekdays and 5pm weekends. A dedicated duty room is provided, allowing rest periods when appropriate.
Requirements
- Qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
- Confident working across a range of clinical areas
- Interest in inpatient and overnight care desirable
- Clinical Coach experience or interest in training/supporting students is a bonus
Benefits
- Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
- Support for CPD and certificates
- Opportunity to be a Clinical Coach within a training practice
- Structured rota with a balanced approach to night duties
- Modern, well-equipped hospital environment
