Salary: Up to £34,000 DOE | Monday–Friday Twilight Shifts

Are you a Registered Veterinary Nurse looking for a twilight role in a busy, progressive small animal practice in the UK? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking clinical team where patient care, collaboration and professional development are truly valued.

You’ll play an important role supporting the evening clinical team, helping deliver high standards of inpatient care, theatre support, and client communication while ensuring a smooth transition between day and night teams.

This role offers a structured Monday–Friday twilight rota, making it ideal for nurses who prefer later shifts without weekend commitments.


Key Responsibilities

Wards & Inpatient Care

  • Support handovers between day and night teams
  • Provide nursing care for hospitalised patients
  • Monitor patient health and report changes to the veterinary surgeon
  • Administer medications as prescribed
  • Assist with blood sampling and IV catheter placement
  • Assess and monitor patient pain levels
  • Support blood transfusion monitoring
  • Maintain high standards of ward hygiene and kennel cleaning

Theatre & Clinical Support

  • Assist with surgical preparation including clipping and aseptic scrubbing
  • Monitor patients under general anaesthesia
  • Maintain anaesthetic and medication records
  • Prepare and check surgical equipment prior to procedures
  • Support diagnostic imaging procedures (radiography and ultrasound positioning)
  • Assist with theatre clean-down and infection control procedures
  • Support advanced procedures including endotracheal intubation and catheter placement under veterinary direction

Clinical Support & Auxiliary Tasks

  • Prepare, clean and sterilise surgical instruments
  • Restock clinical consumables and equipment
  • Run and assist with laboratory tests
  • Support consulting vets and nurses when required
  • Assist with equipment preparation and manual handling
  • Complete routine clinical maintenance and job lists

Client Care & Front of House Support

  • Assist with patient discharges and client communication
  • Conduct clinical examinations and obtain patient histories
  • Support triage of emergency cases
  • Dispense medications under veterinary direction
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Support reception tasks and answer out-of-hours calls when required

Working Hours

  • Monday–Friday twilight rota
  • Either 3pm – 11pm or 4pm – 12am
  • 45-minute break included
  • No weekend rota required for this position

Requirements

  • RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or BSc/FdSc Veterinary Nursing
  • Confident supporting inpatient care and anaesthesia
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment
