Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for surgery and a desire to make a real impact within a supportive, independent practice?
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established independent small animal hospital in North Somerset (15/20mins to Bristol)Â that is looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical bias to become a key member of their close-knit team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop an advanced surgical caseload, mentor less experienced colleagues and work within a genuinely collaborative environment where cases are encouraged to stay in-house whenever possible.
The Role
This varied position combines surgery, consulting and inpatient care, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a diverse caseload while making full use of the hospital's excellent facilities.
The role includes:
- Performing a wide range of soft tissue and routine surgical procedures
- Developing and growing the hospital's surgical caseload
- Consulting with clients across both the hospital and branch practices
- Providing inpatient care alongside an experienced nursing team
- Supporting and mentoring younger Veterinary Surgeons who are keen to develop their surgical skills
- Occasional travel between the hospital and four local consulting branches
The practice is passionate about working cases up thoroughly within the hospital wherever possible, allowing you to utilise your clinical skills while delivering exceptional continuity of care.

The Team
You'll be joining a friendly, collaborative and highly supportive veterinary team that genuinely enjoys working together.
The practice has built a culture where colleagues readily share knowledge and support one another. There is a real appetite within the team to expand their surgical expertise, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys teaching, mentoring and helping others develop.
Experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses provide excellent clinical support, including 24-hour inpatient nursing care. Stable inpatients remain hospitalised overnight, with a vet available by phone should any advice be required, meaning overnight call-ins are uncommon.
About You
We're looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who:
- Has solid GP experience with a strong surgical interest or bias
- Enjoys both operating and consulting
- Is confident managing surgical cases independently
- Values teamwork and collaborative case management
- Is passionate about mentoring and supporting colleagues
- Wants to play an important role in developing the hospital's surgical service
Working Pattern
- Full-time position – 4 days per week
- Combination of hospital and branch work
- Weekend rota shared across the team
- Minimal overnight disruption thanks to dedicated overnight nursing cover for stable inpatients
