Veterinary Surgeon – Family-Run Independent Practice, 4-Day Week – Derbyshire/South Yorkshire – £40,000–£60,000 DOE

A wonderful opportunity to join a genuinely family-run, independent small animal practice with two sites — where enjoying your job is actively encouraged and your development is genuinely supported. 🐾

About the Practice

Established in 1992, this family-run independent small animal practice operates across two sites in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. It has built a warm, supportive team culture over more than 30 years, and takes real pride in being the kind of practice where people stay, thrive and genuinely enjoy coming to work.

The team is close-knit and experienced, comprising 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 8 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 3 receptionists, a dedicated Practice Manager and 2 admin support staff. The practice is well equipped with a high standard of clinical facilities across both sites, and certificates and CPD are actively encouraged for all clinical staff.

About the Role

This is a permanent position available full or part-time, working a 4-day week with a set day off and a 1 in 5 Saturday rota. Consultations are 15 minutes as standard, with allocated admin time and coffee breaks built into the day — because this is a practice that understands what sustainable working actually looks like.

The role offers a good variation of consult and surgery days, with a caseload that keeps things interesting without being overwhelming.

Why Derbyshire and South Yorkshire?

This part of the world offers a brilliant quality of life that is hard to match. The region sits on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park — one of the UK's most stunning stretches of countryside — with fantastic walking, cycling and outdoor pursuits on the doorstep. 🏔️

Sheffield is one of the UK's most consistently well-regarded cities for liveability, with a thriving food and culture scene, excellent universities and a genuinely diverse and welcoming community. It has direct train services to London St Pancras in around two hours and to Manchester in under an hour. Derbyshire more broadly offers a more rural lifestyle with excellent road links — sitting close to the M1 for easy commuting north and south. Whether you're after city life, countryside living or something in between, this area delivers. 🌿

What They're Looking For

They are ideally looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with at least 3 years of post-graduate experience who is confident across routine consults and surgery. Full or part-time applicants are equally welcome — what matters most is finding the right person for a team that genuinely cares about one another.
