Looking for a GP role that offers more than your typical first-opinion practice?
Join a busy, well-equipped small animal hospital in East London, where you can broaden your clinical experience, manage a varied caseload and work alongside an experienced team of veterinary professionals.
This is an exciting opportunity for a confident, well-rounded Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the pace of a hospital environment and has an interest in emergency cases, diagnostic imaging and high-quality patient care.
About the Role
You’ll be joining a hospital providing first-opinion, emergency, critical care and referral services, with a varied caseload that offers plenty of opportunities to develop your clinical skills.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable carrying out routine surgery, including bitch spays and dentals, alongside confidently managing emergency presentations. Previous ECC and ultrasonography experience would be advantageous, particularly given the high caseload and imaging opportunities.
There is also plenty of scope to develop an existing clinical interest, particularly in diagnostic imaging, with access to excellent facilities and experienced colleagues.

-
Performing routine surgical procedures within your clinical competence.
-
Investigating cases using advanced diagnostic equipment, including radiography and laboratory testing.
-
Supporting emergency and critical care cases as part of the hospital rota.
-
Building strong client relationships through excellent communication and compassionate care.
-
Working collaboratively with colleagues while recognising when to seek additional support.
The Team & Facilities
You’ll be joining a large, collaborative team of approximately 25 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs and 7 VCAs, supported by a dedicated client care team and an established management structure.
You’ll have access to impressive facilities and clinical expertise, including:
-
On-site CT scanner and commercial laboratory.
-
Experienced medical and surgical teams.
-
Advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
-
Minimally invasive surgical facilities.
-
A strong network of local practices providing internal referrals.
With support from senior GP vets, internal medicine colleagues, senior nursing staff and an experienced hospital management team, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills while delivering excellent patient care.
Working Hours & Rota
The role averages 40 hours per week, with a six-week rotational rota allowing you to gain experience across consulting, surgery, wards and emergency and critical care.
The rota includes:
-
1:3 Saturday rotation.
-
1:6 Sunday rotation.
-
Up to two bank holidays per year.
-
Participation in a last-resort on-call rota.
Location
Based in East London, the hospital benefits from excellent public transport links, with a Central Line station within walking distance.
You’ll have access to green spaces, woodland walks and a fantastic selection of independent cafés, restaurants and pubs, offering a great balance between city living and time outdoors.
