Experienced Veterinary Surgeon – Buckinghamshire

Salary: £55,000–£65,000 DOE + bonus (higher for certificate holders/AVP)
4-day week • No nights • No on-call • 1:4 weekends

We’re looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a forward-thinking, supportive and genuinely people-first practice in Buckinghamshire. If you want to work in a hospital that invests heavily in its team, its facilities and its culture—this is the role for you.

    • Additional consult rooms (7 total)

About the Team

  • Led by an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery

  • 10 vets, 8 RVNs, 3 SVNs, 4 VCAs, plus an experienced client care & admin team

  • Regular clinical team meetings and full practice meetings, everyone has a voice

  • Strong focus on development, case discussions and clinical standards


Clinical Facilities

Orthopaedics: TPLO, ESF, locking systems, Hall drill
Monitoring: multiparameters, capnography, syringe drivers, infusion pumps
Imaging & Scopes:

  • Logic R8 ultrasound with Doppler

  • Gastroscope & bronchoscope

  • Karl Storz endoscopy/laparoscopy/arthroscopy

  • Dental X-ray

  • Full imaging suite including 32-slice CT (from late 2025)
    Additional: K-Laser, nerve stimulator, EPOC blood gases, HT Vista tumour screening
    Rehab: in-house physiotherapist + hydrotherapy treadmill


The Role

  • Manage your own caseload confidently

  • Take on advanced work-ups aligned to your interests

  • Collaborate with colleagues in surgery, imaging, medicine and ECC

  • Opportunity to pursue certificates (full funding and support)

  • Optional involvement in mentoring junior vets


Rota & Work–Life Balance

  • 4-day week with a generally fixed day off

  • 1:4 weekends

  • No nights, no on-call (Vets Now covers OOH & inpatients)


What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years small animal experience

  • Confident with routine soft tissue surgery and imaging

  • Able to manage or triage complex cases

  • Working towards a certificate, or already hold one (salary uplift available)


Salary & Benefits

  • £55,000–£65,000 DOE

  • Higher salary for certificate holders/AVPs

  • £2,500 CPD + 5 days

  • Full support for certificates

  • RCVS, VDS, BVA fees paid

  • 4 weeks’ holiday + bank holidays + birthday off

  • Enhanced maternity pay (13 weeks full + 13 weeks half)
