Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice | North Staffordshire

Salary: £36,000–£45,000 DOE
Job Type: Full Time (4-Day Week)

Are you a Veterinary Surgeon with around 1–3 years’ experience looking to take the next step in your career? This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy, independent small animal practice in North Staffordshire where you’ll be encouraged to develop your clinical confidence while benefiting from the support of an experienced and welcoming team.

This role is ideal for a vet who is ready to work with greater autonomy, enjoys a varied caseload, and wants to be part of a genuinely supportive practice with excellent staff retention.

The Role

You’ll enjoy a varied caseload of routine consultations alongside more complex medical and surgical cases, giving you the opportunity to continue building your clinical skills in a well-equipped, fast-paced environment. While support is always on hand, this role would suit someone who is comfortable managing their own caseload and working with a good degree of independence.

As an independent practice, patient care always comes first. The team prides itself on its collaborative culture, with many members of staff choosing to stay for years—a testament to the supportive environment and positive working relationships.

Working Pattern

  • Full-time position across a 4-day week
  • One full weekday off every week
  • Shared weekend rota with approximately 1 in 6 Sundays
  • Sunday commitment is inpatient care only, typically lasting 1–2 hours (with longer days only occasionally required). There is no expectation to remain at the practice between checks.

About You

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who:

  • Has around 1–3 years of UK small animal experience
  • Is confident with routine consultations and surgery and can work with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Enjoys being part of a friendly, collaborative team
  • Is keen to continue developing clinically
  • Shares a passion for delivering exceptional patient and client care

What’s On Offer

  • Salary of £36,000–£45,000, depending on experience
  • Excellent work-life balance with a 4-day week
  • One fixed day off each week
  • Interesting and varied medical and surgical caseload
  • Well-equipped independent practice
  • Supportive team with excellent staff retention
  • Opportunity to work alongside a practice that is actively involved in both local and national animal charities

If you’re looking for a role where you’ll be trusted, supported and given the opportunity to develop your skills within a genuinely independent practice, we’d love to hear from you.
