 Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal GP with Surgical Experience

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (£40,000-£65,000K)

Hours: 4 days per week, 1 in 3 Saturdays (3-hour shift), no out-of-hours

About the Practice:
GVC is assisting a well-established, independent small animal GP practice with a strong reputation and loyal client base. The practice is purpose-built and RCVS-accredited, with ample facilities for consultations, surgery, and imaging.

Visiting specialists include ultrasound, cardiology, orthopaedic, and soft tissue surgeons, supporting a wide range of clinical and surgical procedures. Routine surgeries, dentals, anal gland removals, enucleations, amputations, and imaging (including bronchoscopy and X-ray) are regularly performed.

The practice values team morale, client service, and a collaborative working environment.


Team Setup:

  • 1 full-time Veterinary Surgeon (4 days/week)

  • 1 locum Vet

  • Owner Lead Vet (reducing hours due to retirement)

  • 2 RVNs (one reducing hours, one qualifying soon)

  • 1 VCA, 2 Receptionists, Practice Manager


The Role:
The practice is seeking a skilled all-round Veterinary Surgeon with surgical experience to:

  • Perform general small animal medicine and surgery

  • Work independently at times (sole charge)

  • Participate in routine consultations, surgery, and some emergency cases

  • Maintain high standards of client care and team collaboration

Consultations are typically 9–10 per day, with surgery scheduled mid-day and consults resuming in the afternoon depending on surgical load.


Requirements:

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon (or eligible to register)

  • Experience in small animal GP work and routine surgery

  • Confident working in a sole charge capacity when required

  • Strong team player with excellent client communication skills

  • Enthusiastic about surgery and providing high-quality patient care
