A fantastic opportunity to join a brand-new independent practice

GVC are delighted to be assisting a brand-new independent veterinary clinic in County Durham, which opened its doors in July 2026 and is already proving incredibly busy.

The practice is now looking to welcome another Veterinary Surgeon to the team as it continues to grow. There is currently one permanent Vet and a Locum Vet, with the aim of building a team of two permanent Vets. This could work brilliantly for someone looking for a full-time position, part-time hours or even a job-share arrangement.

The clinic is very much in its exciting early stages, meaning you will have a genuine opportunity to help shape how the practice develops and how the clinical day works.

The role

Ideally, the practice is looking for a full-time Vet working four days per week, with a share of Saturdays, although they are extremely flexible around the right person's requirements.

Typical hours are:

• Monday–Friday: 8:30am–6:00pm
• Saturdays: 9:00am–1:00pm
• No OOH: covered by external hospital 

This is a first opinion GP role with a busy and varied caseload. They are looking for a confident all-rounder who enjoys both consulting and operating, and who is comfortable working sole charge when required.

The current routine generally involves operating in the mornings and consulting after lunch, although as the practice has only recently opened, they are still finding the best structure for the team and workload.

What you'll be joining

Despite being a brand-new clinic, there is already a fantastic support team in place, including:

• 2 RVNs
• Senior Kennel Nurse
• 4 part-time Receptionists, with two working at any one time
• A supportive and growing independent team
• The opportunity to have a genuine say in the development of the practice

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys the independent practice environment, wants clinical freedom and would like to be involved in building something from the ground up rather than simply stepping into an established structure.

You'll ideally be:

• A good all-rounder across consulting and operating
• Comfortable working independently and sole charge
• Confident managing a busy GP caseload
• A team player who enjoys working closely with nurses and support staff
• Someone who would enjoy helping shape a brand-new independent practice

Salary & benefits

£45,000–£65,000 DOE, with flexibility for the right candidate.
