The Relief Veterinarian provides high-quality medical care to companion animals on a temporary or as-needed basis, supporting the hospital’s general practice and wellness services. This role is ideal for a licensed DVM seeking flexible scheduling while delivering compassionate, evidence-based veterinary care in a collaborative clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

-Provide comprehensive wellness and preventive care, including physical exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and client education

-Diagnose and treat common medical conditions in small animals

-Perform routine soft tissue surgeries and dental procedures, as applicable to hospital standards only when agreed-upon between DVM and Client

-Develop and implement diagnostic and treatment plans utilizing available in-house and external resources

-Accurately document medical records in accordance with hospital protocols and legal requirements

-Communicate effectively with clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognoses, and preventive care

-Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high standards of care

-Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and applicable state veterinary regulations

Qualifications:

-Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school

-Active veterinary license in the state of practice (or ability to obtain)

-DEA license and state-controlled substance registration (or ability to obtain)

-Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in small animal general practice

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Ability to adapt quickly to new teams, workflows, and hospital systems

Schedule & Engagement:

-Flexible, short-term, or per diem assignments

-Shifts may vary by hospital needs and may include weekdays and/or weekends

-No long-term commitment required unless mutually agreed upon
